Note from Nurse Gemmer
The administration, teachers, maintenance staff, and all staff members are working very hard to keep illness to a minimum in the school. I would like to ask for the help of all parents regarding this season of Influenza A and B, Gastroenteritis, and Strep.

1.        Remind your children to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer after coughing, sneezing, using the bathroom, before and after eating, and anytime they may have touched something that could have germs.

2.       Please do not send your child to school with a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or a cough that is uncontrollable.  Our policy states the child must be 24 hours free of any of these symptoms after the last episode.

3.       Please follow your doctor’s orders.  If your child has a school slip that has them out of school until a certain day, but you think they are better, please do not send them.  Trust that your doctor has your child’s best interest in mind.

4.       Please keep your children at home if they are ill and not in a public forum with a lot of people.

I know it is hard to stay home from sporting activities, movies, parties, etc.  However, this is how illnesses are spread and become out of control.  Remember, your child can get sick from being in crowds.  School is not the only place they come in contact with illnesses.

5.        Our administration and teachers at DSJ are wonderful and understanding.  I know from personal experience that they will work with the students to make up missed assignments.

6.       The policy at DSJ is that any student who goes home after 12:30 p.m., should not come to any afterschool events as a participant or spectator that same evening.  Please give your child an opportunity to recover.

I have been asked several times what our statistics and trends are showing at school regarding influenza.  Right now, statistics show we are at 1%.   Please help us to keep our statistics low.

Thank you for you cooperation.  Let’s have as healthy as possible winter.
