Jesus is on Trial!

The mock trial of Jesus Christ was heard in Room 165, Judge Dawn Ledyard presided where Jesus Christ was charged with Treason, Criminal Conspiracy, Tax Evasion and Practicing Medicine Without a License. The Prosecuting Attorney called several witnesses who were sworn in by the bailiff. Witnesses for the Prosecution included Mary, mother of Mr. Christ, Ms. Lopez, a Registered Nurse, Ms. Myers, a carpenter who worked with Mr. Christ, and Jesus Christ, himself. The outcome was as follows:

State of California vs. Jesus Christ, State of Georgia vs. Jesus Christ and State of Mississippi vs. Jesus Christ, Mr. Christ was found innocent on all charges, except the State of California found him guilty of Tax Evasion.

The 10th Grade class studied the laws of California, Georgia, and Mississippi to prepare for the prosecution and defense, the 5-man jury paid close attention to the details of the case. There were several objections that were both sustained and overruled. The courtroom protocols were well represented during the trial.

This learning exercise has provided them the opportunity to look at today's judicial process and re-examine what it would look like for Jesus to be tried in court in the year 2017. Their research has provided the students with opportunities for interesting dialogue, and engaged them in understanding more about their faith life. It a great learning experience and crosses the curriculum in several different subject areas.
